Trump misses the 2025 prize despite the campaign
Trump actively campaigned for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize but ultimately did not receive it. The nomination deadline fell on January 31, just days after his second presidential inauguration. Several world leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and the governments of Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Rwanda, and Cambodia, expressed support for his nomination.
The President had expressed hope that his role in selling Israel’s prize – a cease-fire agreement would secure the prize. He told reporters that he believed he deserved recognition for resolving many international conflicts during his time. Trump acknowledged his slim chances ahead of the announcement. He told the military leaders that it would be a serious offense to the nation if he missed. Despite his claims to have completed 7 battles, he thought they might find a reason not to give him the award.
The White House initially criticized the Committee’s decision
Before the call, the Trump administration was very upset by the decision of the Nobel Committee. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said the committee “It has proven that they put politics in peace”. Cheung said that Trump will continue to sell peace deals and end wars despite the snub in the non-committee. The White House Communications Director described Trump as “The Heart of a Human Being. That said, Trump’s rhetorical achievements need to be recognized regardless of the committee’s decision. However, he later softened his tone after speaking with Machado himself.

In interviews earlier this year, Machado thanked Trump for his generous support. He told reporters that Trump’s approach represents “the right thing at the right time. “ Machado believes that Venezuelans feel confident that they are not alone in their struggle.
Secretary Rubio’s role in Venezuela policy
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, and Machado are said to have been close, according to Machado. Rubio has heavily influenced Venezuela’s powerful policy. Rubio previously signed a letter nominating Machado for the Nobel Peace Prize along with 7 other lawmakers. August’s letter praised him “Courageous and Selfless Leadership” and commitment to democratic values. Rubio has repeatedly turned to rejecting Maduro’s endorsement throughout his political career. Records show that urrutia actually won the majority of votes in the world light.
However, Venezuela’s National Electoral Council declared Maduro the winner without providing detailed vote counts. The opposition has published sub-sheets from 80% of online electronic voting machines as evidence of fraud. International observers widely criticized the election as free or fair.
